Hello, I'm James Akau.

James Akau​,​ currently employed as Kahu ʻĀina (Caretaker) for Kamehameha Schools Kahuku Ranch​,​ is from the majestic district of Kaʻū on Hawaiʻi Island. He was raised in a household where gathering and engaging with the natural world was a part of daily life which has informed much of his world view as a kanaka maoli biocultural land steward. James has over a decade of experience of guiding voluntourism​,​ community​,​ and organizations through interpretive hikes and hands-on restoration efforts. Additionally​,​ he incorporates his years of seafaring as an avid mariner to enrich these guided experiences.
