What if I told you that by playing this simple strategy game, you could connect to Hawaiian culture and learn the ancient Hawaiian way of thinking?

What if I told you that the objective of this game is to make the last move and this action will help you understand resource management and how the ancient Hawaiians thrived in the most isolated Islands in the world?

What if I told you that all you need is a strong internet connection and Zoom installed on your device and a comfortable place to engage in this experience.

You’ll need a playing partner to help you navigate through this teaching tool that taught the greatest leaders in Hawaiian history how to manage their resources.

Things to Know

This workshop is best for ages 12 and up. You will need a partner to play so each booking is for two players.

You will need a printer to prepare for the game. Before play, your host will email you a printable Pueo papamū playing board.

You will need to have your playing pieces on hand. We recommend 40 dried beans, 20 in one color and 20 in another. We like to use lima and kidney beans.

Anything that fits within the circles on the game surface will do, as long as it is in different colors.

After the experience is over, we'll send you a free ticket to join a future Zoom Kōnane tournament, as well as a link to purchase a Pueo Papamū to continue your journey.

I never played a game virtually before, but it felt like I was right in the room with Uncle John. I learned so much about the cultural significance connected to Kōnane! Maybe most of all, we had so much fun laughing and connecting with the rest of the group.
